Cuban primary schools in Santiago de Cuba receive donations from the Viva la Educación appeal
Primary school students in Santiago de Cuba receive donations of computers and school equipment as part of the Viva la Educación appeal.
The Viva la Educación (VLE) appeal was launched by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and the National Education Union (NEU) in February 2022.
More than £100,000 was raised in the year-long appeal, enough to fill two forty-foot containers full of aid. The funds were spent on materials and equipment requested by the Cuban education union, including 300 refurbished PCs with new operating systems, hundreds of thousands of pencils, tens of thousands of exercise books, paints, paint brushes, graded paper, card, and other stationery.

    The subtitles say that Cuba sent conscripts to fight against the Apartheid SA forces. But Fidel Castro stressed, during his speech in Harlem in 1995, that the troops had volunteered to go. Either way, Cuba's contribution to ending Apartheid was clearly vital and deliberately overlooked by the MSM. But while the Cuban people have suffered under the illegal blockade imposed by the U.S., the racist state of South Africa was never blockaded by the west.

There is no freedom of the press, independent journalists like Yoani Sánchez and Luz Escobar are harassed. Cuba is a country with few economic freedoms where fishermen are not allowed to fish freely, farmers cannot sell their products directly to consumers. There are thousands of photos and videos of the millionaire life of the Castro family and the leaders of that dictatorship. I was accepted into this program, however, after I paid, I had a potential issue that came up. When I asked questions about a potential deferment, they were as silent as a church mouse. They absolutely refused to respond to my emails that sought clarity on whether or not a deferment is allowed. I'm due to fly out tomorrow, so I guess I'll just fly out and see what happens. But honestly, anyone who is reading my comment, I would think twice about applying to this institution. It's incredibly frustrating dealing with them on an administrative level. If I've lost the money that I spent, seriously I feel like it's worth it if it means that I never have to interact with them again.

    I say shame on them because on July the 11th when the impoverished, unhappy and tired people went into the streets, the Communist Party of Cuba and the government ordered the journalist no to go out in the streets and give coverage of the demonstrations. Cristina didn't do her job she followed the instructions of the Communist Party. So she did not interviewed the rioters she didn't see and report what happened. And what did happen that day? The regimen special police and supporters attacked, violently repressed shot, beat, killed and wounded countless men, women and young demonstrators and there is no "official" recorded evidence by the "official media" to support or condenm one group or the other or simply to help clarify what happened and how it happened. Then, Cristina comes out here to lucubrate and speak out conspiracy theories and fabricate other stories in a way a professional journalist shouldn't and must not do. I repeat shame on them.

  • @JUANIKIKI1962
    @JUANIKIKI1962 2 года назад

    Of course, this wasn't enough since the number of demonstrators outnumbered the regimen supporters this time. And then, the police and especial anti-riot forces entered into action. No need to say a word by just click in "videos de las manifestaciones del 11 de julio" is possible to see how strong and immeasurable was the response of the military to the unarmed civilians in the street: hundreds of beaten, wounded civilians, more than 1500 arrested. The spontaneous and disorganised character of the demonstrations, the lack of a leader or a leading group help out to extinguish them in a few hours. These same facts made it hard for the government to cope with the event and find out how all this happened to try to prevent it from happening again. Because of this is the high number of demonstrators suffering in communication, preventive imprisonment, a great number of them youngsters, about 100 underaged ones, while waiting for months for an expedite, close -to the- public trials and facing long, absurd , excessive and far from just sentences in jail. A way, as usually in the revolution time, to give an exemplary penalty rather than a show of justice. The demonstrations failed to bring the system to an end. However it was a wake up call for both sides. A change is necessary for the situation in Cuba. The regimen however is reluctant to it. We say the situation is in stand by. Far from solution and far from the end as well. There are so many economic interests and so much political hypocrisy on both sides behind the scenes of this issue of Cuba (includ-ing the billionaire remittances of money or the payments for telecommunication services and even the remote possibility of lifting the embargo which will allow American companies to come back to Cuba, as before 1959) that nobody around wants to lose even the smallest cut of the pie. Not even this journalist, Cristina, whose paycheck and bonuses she gets from the government do not depend on the quality or style of her articles let alone on her impartiality or objectivity of them; but in her unconditional political affiliation with the communist party and the revolutionary leadership. It is a pity, since today, 7 months after the demonstrations, after so many anti American government campaigns there are so many Cuban women and children living in so hard and difficult housing and undernourishing conditions, so many people calling for a chance to open their own companies and all they get is a NO for an answer. Neither the US embargo or the so called 243 acts signed by ex President Trump are responsible for that NO. The truth is that, so far, neither the Cuban government nor Cristina have done much to help them out. I repeat it is a pity. I say more: Shame on them.

    Believe me when I am saying I don't want to put an extra word to this comment. I am sure the country has the capacity, both, the facilities and scientific ability or know how to make and produce a vaccine. It is that they haven't done it yet and they are playing with time, they are playing with fire. Well, the Cuban people reacted to all this with massive demonstrations on July 11th, 2021. Nothing was planned or orchestrated as the government or this journalist state. It was a natural and logical reaction to the status quo. The evidence is there. Another demonstration, a peaceful one for November 20th, was planned and requested permission from the government two months before. The outcome: no demonstration allowed, all kind of excuses and threats to the top leader and other people involved, military shows of force 48 hours previous to the dead line. The day marked for the demonstrations military and civilian supporters were displayed in front of the demonstrator's houses and blocked them inside. The top leader was not arrested, trailed or sentenced to time in prison, he was not even fined but forced into exile in Spain. So, back into July 11th. That day demonstrators went spontaneously out in the streets, in one town, then in the other, in 40 cities and towns all along the country including Havana and no force was able to stop them. Social media helped out. In the few hours the country was a bee hive of protesting groups. Mostly peaceful demonstrators demanding freedom, food, and down with the communism and the revolution leaders. It was so strong and coherent act that the government was taken by surprise, which explains the nature of its response. In some few places, however, looting stores and clashes with the government supporters turned the demonstrations into a confrontation, a street battle. I could not say when or how the suporters were called as usually to "spontaneously repress" the demonstrations. But about mid day the president himself made an especial appearance on the Cuban television expressing intolerance to the demonstrations and instead of calling for a peaceful solution to the conflìct , a political dialog or agreement he urged his supporters to fight to death for the revolution: he said those in the street were the enemy and against the enemy the order to fighting against is "always given". "The streets belong only to the revolution supporters"....He continued and gave the nod to fight Cubans against Cubans. He gave green light to clashes between civilians in the streets. Completely outrageous.

    All this I have mentioned together with the effect of the pandemic brought the situation in Cuba to a limit in the last three years. The Cuban government again failed to do the right thing, When the whole world was closing the borders and taking other measures to stop or delay the spreading of the virus the Cuban government boasted of his public health care system and its readiness to face the challenge and opened the borders for the tourist season, and worse than that opened one of the Cuban ports to a British cruise ship full with passengers potentially affected by the virus to be flown back in the UK. How much money they were supposed to get out of the tourists season or this risky operation? We don't know, what we know is how and when the virus entered in Cuba. The result, the virus spreaded and the Cuban public health system collapsed. First, the strategy to keep people under lock down was, is mission impossible in Cuba, keeping people in isolation or quarantine once infected, the same. The ICUs in the Cuban hospitals( as in many other countries) weren't ready for the explosion of cases. It wasn't enough doctors, treatments, pills for headache or even oxygen production or supply. People died in the streets, people died without medical attention. People have been buried in collective graves. This is not fake news. I am not exaggerated even one word. My word on that.The myth of the Cuban health care system showed its real face. The cuban government even refused to entered the WHO's vaccination program on the excuse that the Cuban system was able to produce its own vaccines. A very selfish and careless attitude. That negative position brought about an extension of the number of infected cases and the vulnerability of them. What the Cuban labs have today are vaccine candidates which have not been able to prove effectiveness before international health institutions, including the WHO. However, the government officials and other speakers, such as this journalist, are selling another story

  • @JUANIKIKI1962

    That is a fact and one of the main reasons for Cubans poor capacity to produce, sell or buy what i is basic for living such as a simple glass of milk a day for a child. Today more and more, since 1990, the Cuban government is engaged in a race for re reintroducing and restoring private property and foreign direct investment to reactivate an impoverished "socialist" economy that was in ruins at the moment of the socialist collapse in the early 90s. No doubt, in a deeper ruin than in 1959. That was the result after 30 years of Communist practice . That was the result of 30 years of economic and political experiments that ended in a total failure. Cuban socialism was "successful" while it was subsidized by the soviets. When they collapse the Cuban Communism sunk with them. The government says this strategy of association with these Western capitalit companies was and is aimed at maintaining the "social achievements" of the revolution and the socialism. And this makes me wonder: Why is the future of a prosperous, independent, sovereign people and a socialist country in the hands and money of business and trade people from a capitalist and free oriented economy such as a Western country or the USA. After 30 years of limited opening to a "tempered Western capital injection" where and in which conditions are those so called "socialist and revolutionary achievements" such as public health care and education? They are in ruins. That is a fact. On the other hand, everything else that flourishes, it is beautiful to the eye, provides good services, is productive, efficient and profitable such as hotels, restaurants, limited enterprises, free zones, farmacies, schools, medical, health clinics and hospital services are dollarized. I mean, they are oriented and dedicated to a segment of the market which pays in hard currency and is mostly made up of foreigners, name it : tourists, business people and others who visit or have residence in Cuba; or upon agreement to people living in another countries.

    There is as well evidence in records provided by the US government on how much has been invested in food, medicine and how much has been invested in buying wine, other eccentricities, equipment and machinery from the US market in the last 20 and some years. The international community and public opinion could not and should not make a blind eye to the Cuban reality, to a real dynamic that is becoming so evident in front of our own eyes. The Cuban government is calling the US for lifting the embargo. The Cuban government is urging the international community for backing up this call. What is their point: the Cuban people is suffering the shortages of food and medicine and there is no legal or moral right which could stand the US policy of the embargo. -Well, there is a simple reasoning behind all this and was expressed by the US rep to the UN General Assembly on the occasion of the voting of a resolution intended to see the need to putting on an end to the embargo : First, why demanding the US government to lifting the embargo in the name of the freedom and wish some American business people and enterprises have to investing in and trading with the companies of the Cuban Communist government. The US government reserves itself the right to trading or not with whomever it wishes or not. And more , it may restrain from doing so when the very Cuban government blocks the will and limits their own citizens, inside and outside Cuba from investing or trading.

  • @JUANIKIKI1962

    the unjustified repression of the very government. US reports of the Department of Commerce show that the US economic sanctions, embargo , or blockade or whatever name we give it doesn't affect, blocks or puts limitations on the selling and buying of foodstuffs, medicines or medical equipment from US companies , the limit is given by the ammount of money available or by the Cuban government's interest on how much to invest in food and medicine from the US market. The only conditions for the operations: no credits or financial facilities allowed, payment in cash and ahead of the loading in US ports. The reason why for that. The Cuban government seldom pays back any credits or financial commitment. It is there, they have never paid a single cent for the nationalization of private companies belonging to US business people. More, you could check out on the Paris Club, the Chinese or the Russian governments. They have all grown grey hair while waiting for the Cuban government to pay its debts.

    The situation in Cuba is, in a great deal, a responsibility of the Cuban government and the political and economic system imposed on the Cuban people for more than 62 years. The shortages of food, medicines, the precarious situation of the housing, health and education services are consequences of the inefficient, unproductive socialist system. The continuous waves of immigration, those who suffer political imprisonment and those who were killed for opposing the communist system are the victims of the unjustified represion of that vey government.
